(
Update: According to JTA, Anne Frank was posthumously baptized in a Mormon proxy ritual last weekend.
The ceremony reportedly took place last weekend in a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple in the Dominican Republic. It was discovered by Helen Radkey, a former member of the Mormon church, who has become a whistleblower on such activity.... The discovery comes more than a week after it was discovered that the parents of Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal were posthumously baptized last month. Wiesenthal was a Holocaust survivor who died in 2005; his mother was killed in the Nazi death camp Belzec in 1942... In 2010, the church agreed after meetings with Jewish leaders to halt the proxy baptisms of Holocaust victims unless the names were submitted by their direct ancestors.... Also last week, the names of the father and grandfather of Holocaust survivor and author Elie Wiesel were found to have been submitted for proxy baptism.

From the LA Times:
The Mormon Church apologized Tuesday for a "serious breach of protocol" after it was discovered that the parents of the late Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal were posthumously baptized as Mormons. The church also acknowledged that one of its members tried to baptize posthumously three relatives of Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel.

The efforts, at least in Wiesenthal's case, violated the terms of an agreement that the church signed in 1995, in which it agreed to stop baptizing Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Wiesenthal and Wiesel gained fame for careers spent grappling with the legacy of the Holocaust, Wiesenthal by hunting down war criminals, Wiesel by writing books that became part of the canon of 20th century literature.

The big difference between attacks on Obama's religion and Romney's religion (0.00 / 0)
There are those who equate attacks on Romney's religion with attacks on Obama's former pastor Jeremiah Wright. However, there is a big difference. Obama was just a member of a church, but Romney himself was a church leader. From 1986 to 1994, he presided over the Boston Stake, which included more than a dozen wards in eastern Massachusetts with about 4,000 church members altogether. Nevertheless, while Obama denounced his pastor's rhetoric, Romney has remained silent as his church continues to posthumously baptize well known Jewish holocaust victims such as Anne Frank, and the family of Simon Wiesenthal and the family of Elie Wiesel.
